The Amazing Powrtouch - Continued

Power Wheel USA helps a road warrior

A gentleman from Texas spends a lot of time on the road traveling to various trade shows around the country to display and sell his products. He travels in a large pickup truck, pulling a 5th wheel RV which in turn pulls an enclosed cargo trailer with his show displays and all of his products. He is pulling quite a load.

While on the road, he stays in campground sites but every night was faced with the same problem. Once in the campground, he had to unhook his cargo trailer, then unhook his 5th wheel RV. He then had to hook up his cargo trailer to his truck and use the truck to park it.

Once done with that, he then had to again hook up his 5th wheel and move his RV onto the parking pad for the night. When leaving the next morning, he was faced with doing it all over again. This process, according to our customer, took about an hour to accomplish.

He found our website and became interested in our Powrtouch 3 for single axle trailers. We worked with him extensively, obtaining all of the necessary measurements, photos, etc. and determined that his cargo trailer would accommodate a Powrtouch if we custom fabricated a set of hanger plates to be bolted to his trailer frame. This was done, the Powrtouch shipped to him, and he did the installation himself. Here are some pictures we have just received.

Our customer now proudly displays the Powrtouch decals above each drive motor.

Now he simply unhooks the cargo trailer, engages the drive rollers and moves the trailer to its assigned place. No more unhooking and hooking back up and then unhooking again. He now has the convenience of driving the cargo trailer coupling right up to the trailer ball on the rear of his RV.

He reports the hour long parking process has now been reduced to about 10 minutes, leaving more time to relax and get ready to hit the road the next day.

A unique Powrtouch Installation

Power Wheel USA has completed a most unusual installation of a single axle Powrtouch unit on a landscape type trailer which will be used for our new demonstrator unit. This type trailer was chosen so that all of the Powrtouch components could be viewed without crawling beneath the trailer.

The challenge with this installation was recognizing that this trailer would remain outdoors most of the time and to find some way to waterproof the receiver box which is normally mounted inside of an RV trailer and away from the elements.

Power Wheel located and utilized a completely sealed waterproof box and where it was necessary to feed wiring through the case, all entry points were sealed with silicone caulking. Except for the isolator switch mounted on the side, all wire entry points were up through the bottom of the case preventing the ingress of water.

Canadian Car Hauler

A good Canadian customer of Power Wheel USA stopped by our facility on his way to Florida to have the Powrtouch Powrbar ® installed onto his Powrtouch equipped tandem axle car hauler. This device allows for the engaging of both of the drive rollers from either side of the trailer. The installation of the Powrtouch twin axle remote controlled mover was a Do It Yourself (DIY) task performed by our customer.

The trailer is used by our customer to haul his personal vehicle behind his motor home when he goes on vacation. The Lexus SUV can be seen in the top left hand picture. Though not capable of moving the trailer with the SUV loaded onboard, the Powrtouch twin axle mover does provide the convenience of remote controlled parking in the campground area once the Lexus is off loaded.

The electronics receiver box is installed in a waterproof compartment on the nose of the trailer and away from the elements.

Is the Powrtouch for sale in the United States?

On May 3, 2002, Power Wheel USA received the first two Powrtouch units to ever come into the United States. Prior to this time, Power Wheel USA was working in conjunction with Powrwheel, LTD of the UK to perfect the USA version of this amazing product which differs in a few respects from those used in Europe.

Most RV chassis in Europe utilize torsion bar suspensions while in the United States and Canada, leaf spring or leaf spring and torsion bar combinations are most common in about 90% or more RVs.

On May 8, 2002 the first installation of a Powrtouch remote control trailer mover was completed at the Power Wheel USA facility in Marietta, Georgia. It was installed on a Coachman Clipper pop-up camper weighing almost 3,000 pounds. Here is the finished product. It works perfectly and our customer is delighted at being the very first person in the United States to own this creative and unique product.

This picture shows the Powrtouch equipped trailer backing up a 10 degree slope at the entrance to Power Wheel USA's office and warehouse. This particular unit was installed on the rear of the trailer due to the folding steps just in front of the tire.

This installation required the use of hanger plates which were drilled and bolted to the chassis frame of the trailer. The mounting hardware was then used to mount the Powrtouch to the chassis frame.
