Johnson & Johnson medical picks Power Wheel's 24 volt industrial mover for
its ALZA Corp subsidiary
ALZA Corporation, a subsidiary of
Johnson & Johnson medical (Band-Aids) is located in California. ALZA
manufactures a variety of medical products, principally transdermal
patches for timed delivery of medication to humans. They presented
Power Wheel USA with an unusual challenge.
|
 |
ALZA operates a device known as a calender machine
which processes plastic film used as a covering for the pharmaceutical
products they produce.
This machine weighs something on the order of 6,000 pounds and from
time to time, ALZA has an occasion to relocate the machine from one
position to another.
This machine movement was being done by hand with many employees ( 6
to 8 ) being required to perform the task. They asked if Power Wheel
USA could remove the human effort from the equation. |
After considering all of the elements involved in a move, it was
decided that our 24 volt Powrhitch Heavy Duty industrial mover, with
soft start control card would best handle the task. A special rolling
battery cart was fabricated to hold the two 12 volt batteries required
to power our equipment.
|
Power Wheel designed
and fabricated special interface brackets for both ends of the machine
to be mounted in the position shown in the photo at the right.
The task of moving the machine has been reduced from 6 to 8 employees
down to two and it is now being done safely without risk of injury.

brackets just prior to shipment of the machine to ALZA Corporation. |
